Harper’s Newborn Session

When Caitlin booked a newborn session for her little girl, Harper, I knew it was a match made in heaven. I couldn’t wait to show Caitlin the adorable new headbands we had just added to the studio wardrobe. From the moment Harper arrived — just seven days new — she stole my heart. Weighing 6 pounds 3 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches long, she fit perfectly in the palms of my hands. Petite, delicate, and perfectly peaceful, she was an absolute dream to photograph.

Like most newborns, Harper slept peacefully through most of her session, occasionally giving us a peek at her tiny eyelids before drifting right back to sleep in a cozy swaddle. These quiet, sleepy moments are what I love most about newborn photography in Washington, DC — capturing the innocence and softness that only exists in these first fleeting days.

The color palette for Harper’s session was one of my favorites this season: muted bluish-gray paired with dusty rose, soft greens with pops of teal and bright pink, and of course, my signature neutrals that always bring the focus back to baby’s natural beauty. The dainty headbands tied it all together, offering just the right amount of texture and charm to each portrait.

Two setups stood out for me:
🌻 The sunflower arrangement — bold, bright, and joyful, with Harper as the radiant center.
🌸 The oversized pink floral wreath — so soft and angelic, it felt like something out of a dream.

These images would be perfect for birth announcements, nursery artwork, or even heirloom albums passed down for generations.

Harper was truly the perfect little model. She reminded me once again why I adore this work so much — every newborn is a miracle, every family has a story, and every session is a chance to preserve time. Even at just one week old, you could feel the love surrounding her.
