Diane. First time mama. Maternity session, Washington, DC

Pregnancy can be a whirlwind of emotions for many expecting mothers. Whether you’re going to be a first-time mother, or you already wrangle a crew of little ones, those nine months can seem like a rollercoaster of ups and down for even the most experienced women. At the beginning of pregnancy, exhaustion hits like a train, and morning sickness sneaks up at the most inopportune moments of the day—certainly not just in the morning. Plus, without the bump, people are confused by the new mood. The middle of pregnancy is the best part: mostly smooth sailing, and by now people recognize the growing bump. The third trimester is a whole new ball game with added pressure from the growing baby, weird pregnancy symptoms we’ve never even heard of, and dreaded pregnancy insomnia. BUT, with those temporary discomforts comes the thrill of knowing that the bundle of joy is almost here! Those constant flutters remind us of the amazing new life that’s growing inside, and soon Baby will make his or her debut—the family is so excited to meet the newest member!

Pregnancy is beautiful

While these mamas are experiencing the ups and downs of pregnancy, my job and passion is to make them feel beautiful and treasured. I want them to feel good in the skin they’re in, and proud of the amazing feat they’re accomplishing—bringing a child into the world is no small thing. So, when Diane contacted me explaining that she needed some photos for her upcoming shower—and some for her and her other half ;)—I was excited to give her some spectacular portraits that highlight the beauty of pregnancy.

I was blown away by this first-time mama. When Dian walked into my studio, she glowed with confidence. I had so many ideas and couldn’t wait to begin her session. With the shower coming up, we had a tight turnaround, but she was such a natural in front of the lens. I tried to give her a good mix of sweet, elegant, and pretty shots filled with lace, florals, and a little tiara to use for the upcoming event.  Then afterward we did some to help her feel sexy in pregnancy—a few romantic shots as she embraced her husband wearing black lace, and some by herself highlighting her gorgeous profile.

I want all of my moms-to-be to have collections of maternity photos that display how radiant they looked during that time. I loved spending time with this gorgeous mama and can’t wait to meet her little one!
