Happy first birthday to German! What a cutie pie with his piercing blue eyes and chubby pink cheeks! I have known this family for just about four years already, starting when Yana was expecting her older son, Mark. Over the years, I have been able to capture many special moments and milestones for this precious family including Yana’s maternity session with German, and his newborn session last year. I cannot believe how quickly the time passes!
An In-Home Milestone Session
For this session we working at the family’s home in the Fall’s Church, Virginia area. I loved this idea as everyone was able to be more relaxed and comfortable in their natural environment. The interaction between everyone was very enjoyable. I brought with me all of the backdrops and props - even the balloons and decorations! German and his brother were so perfectly well behaved. We worked through different outfit and scene changes to reflect celebrations, colors, moods, and relationships between these two amazing little boys and their beautiful parents.
One of my favorites are the turquoise shirts and jeans Yana chose for the boys. I loved how well they coordinated with the nautical scene and the birthday props. But most of all how they bring out German’s eyes! Everything Yana selected was classic but informal allowing the natural dispositions of the children shine through during the session. Their interaction between one another and with the different props, such as the little metal ridable car, was so typical of the fun, curious little boys they are! As a mother of four myself, I know each child and each family has a unique personality. Recording this for the family to look back on is so important to me. I hope remembering their sessions brings back many happy thoughts!
Growing in Love
I would have to say one of the greatest joys in my work is watching a family grow together as they continue to return to me for their photography. Sometimes I feel being a family photographer is very much akin to being a family doctor, as you are able to have onging contact with the parents and children intimately knowing their personalities, characteristics, likes, and how to make them smile. At the same time, you know how to communicate well and avoid any problems – especially between brothers!
