This little girl is such a doll, and she grows sweeter with each passing day! I have developed a fun friendship with this family as we started with a maternity photo session for Maily’s mum over a year ago. Then, I was so happy when she returned for newborn session after baby Maily made her grand debut. I couldn’t believe it, but it was already time for Maily’s first birthday session.
And what better way to celebrate than with a cake smash?…Well, maybe making it a unicorn cake smash would take this birthday celebration to the next level. This precious girl deserves it, and we really did it up big for her.
A Cake Smash for the Birthday Girl
Her photography set included pastel balloons, purple and white stripes, LOTS of flowers, and of course, the unicorn cake. When Maily arrived, I was excited to see that her two older sisters came to join in on the fun, too.
Before we got started with Maily’s celebration, I wanted to get a few photos of all the ladies together. These portraits are so special with Mom and her three beautiful daughters. Maily’s sisters are in love with their adorable baby sister, and they are wonderful big sisters to her. They’re great role models, and it was pretty clear that Maily just wants to be wherever they’re at. I’m so glad they were down for a sibling photo. Years from now, this will be a precious memory for them, preserved through photography.
Then, it was time for the cake smash! We brought out all the colorful décor and delicious cake and let Maily do her thing. She explored the set, and took an inquisitive first taste of the cake. We think she liked it, but I wouldn’t call this a cake smash as more of a cake tasting. She was so dainty about it, and that made the photos even cuter!
After the cake smash, we got a few more first year portraits using different whimsical sets. I especially loved the blush-colored lace and pears for a kind of bohemian vintage look. So pretty! Then we switched it up to a few neutral-colored photos with white and cream. These are perfect for timeless wall art, and they really showcase Maily and her precious baby features – as parents, we all knows they quickly transform into big kids in the blink of an eye! So it’s important to document these moments.
What a pleasure it was to see this family again! Happy first birthday, sweet Maily!
