Imagine an exquisitely designed room with an infinite display of ribbons in every color, bows of every size, diverse collections of florals, and the cutest baby rompers and knit outfits you ever did see. That’s my photography dream room. The only thing I love more than artfully crafted props is an adorable little one to pair them with! When I found out about Rhys and Rae’s Collections, I was in heaven. This baby prop company based in Georgia has customized newborn hats, headbands, rompers, and wraps galore to use specifically for newborn and baby photography! I especially love vintage French country-styled props, so when the owner of this charming shop offered to let me try a few, I was thrilled to see they had a design I really love since it’s such a specific theme. The design I chose matches all of my custom-made pillows, backdrops, and props. I couldn’t believe it!
Harper’s Newborn Session
When Caitlin booked a newborn session for her little girl, Harper, I knew it was a match made in heaven. I couldn’t wait to show Caitlin the adorable new headbands we could use for Harper’s shoot. She came to my studio at just seven days old, easily fitting in the palms of my hands. At birth, she weighed 6 pound 3 ounces, and measured 20.5 inches long. She was such a petite little beauty! Like most newborns, she was sound asleep for the majority of her very first photo shoot. Occasionally, she would open an eyelid but going right back down as soon as we wrapped her in a cozy swaddling blanket. She was just precious!
I really liked the color combinations in this collection: bluish gray and pink, natural green, teal and bright pink, and of course plenty of soft neutrals to highlight her newborn features. Just as I thought, the headbands were the perfect accent for the portraits—just the added touch I was looking for. My two favorite images are the sunflower set and the large pink floral wreath. Harper looked so angelic as the centerpiece among the bright-colored flowers. They would be perfect for a nursery display or birth announcements.
Harper was the perfect little model, and I truly had an amazing time capturing all the tiny details that make her who she is. Even at just a week old, I know she has brought her family joy like they’ve never experienced. Welcome to the world, sweet girl!
