I loved this Winter ONEderland theme for baby Elizabeth’s first birthday photo session. It’s so appropriate for the one-year milestone. That first year is filled with wonder both for the parents and for the baby. Parents are amazed at how much their little ones grow from day to day during that first year and watch on with fascination as baby coos turn into toddler babble, bald little noggins turn into gorgeous locks, and wiggles turn into first steps.
At the same time, those little babies take in the world around them, learning more and more over those short twelve months. Every day is a new adventure, and even the simplest household object triggers curiosity. Their giggles are infectious, and their bright eyes incite joy in everyone around them.
That first year and first birthday are milestones parents never want to forget. No wonder parents go all out for this first celebration. Even if the babies themselves don’t remember their first birthday parties, the love that surrounds them will stay with them for the rest of their lives. When they grow up and start families of their own, they can look back on their own first birthdays with excitement and replicate the same happiness with their own little ones.
The ONEderland theme was very popular this winter, and when you see the magical colors you’ll understand why. The sparkling blue and violet colors looked so pretty with Elizabeth’s big, beautiful blue eyes and curly blonde hair. We used a white birthday banner on a blue wall covered with soft snowflakes as a backdrop. She loved it and wanted to explore the whole set! I always love pulling out the little white rocking to distract toddlers a little and encourage some cute candid shots—I always try to capture pure joy on little one’s faces instead of forced smiles (because let’s be honest, most toddlers can’t—or rather won’t—smile on cue). This little one was full of smiles for her first little glamour shoot! The blue, purple, and white dresses all looked so pretty on her!
Because it was the holiday season, we also did a few family portraits in the traditional red and green. Alexandra (Mom) and Elizabeth looked stunning in their matching, flowy red dresses. Dad sure is one lucky guy with these two beauties!
